About the Young Person's Garden

The Young Person’s Garden was created to provide a hands-on space where kids and youth can explore, play, and learn through growing food together. This garden is youth-led, with adult mentors supporting older youth as they build gardening skills and then pass those skills on to younger children. Through hands-on experiences, young people learn how to grow food, care for the land, and build meaningful connections to both the environment and the community. These are skills they can carry with them for the rest of their lives, whether that’s in their own backyard, a community garden, or wherever they call home in the future. The space includes areas for annual vegetables, perennials (including herbs and berries), and room for socializing, play, and other activities that help make the garden feel welcoming and fun.

To keep this space growing - and to make it even better for youth, families, and visitors - we could really use community support.

Your donation helps us keep this space safe, accessible, and stocked with what young people actually need to learn, explore, and enjoy being outside. Additional funds will also help us expand and improve the garden so it can support structured youth programming and be a meaningful educational space for casual visitors.

Seeds, soil, compost, and plant starts
Kid-sized tools and garden supplies (including gloves, tools, and wheelbarrows)
Materials for building and improving garden beds
Repairs and upkeep to keep the space safe, welcoming, and accessible
Free, low-barrier programming for youth and families
Sensory planting areas with plants that have interesting scents, textures, and tastes
Pollinator-friendly plants to support learning about bees and other pollinators
Child-sized compost bins for hands-on composting education
Structures to support educational and play activities, including a small farm stand that can serve as an information kiosk and imaginative play space
