For nearly a century, the historic fire station on Hopkins Avenue in Lakewood, Ohio has stood as a symbol of service, dedication, and community. Built in 1926, this landmark now has the opportunity to serve a new purpose—one that will directly impact the lives of pediatric burn survivors and their families for generations to come.

Aluminum Cans for Burned Children (ACBC) has proudly partnered with the Lakewood Professional Firefighters Historical Association to restore this treasured piece of Lakewood history and transform it into a beacon of hope. Once completed, the building will become ACBC's permanent headquarters while also serving as a dedicated resource center and sanctuary for burn survivors.

This space will provide much more than offices. It will offer a welcoming environment where survivors can find support, encouragement, and access to resources that help them move forward. Dedicated workstations will be available for educational pursuits, scholarship applications, career development, job searches, and other personal needs. Most importantly, it will create a place where survivors know they belong—a place where they can connect, heal, and thrive.

Sadly, in September 2025, the building suffered significant fire damage. While the majority of the damage occurred on the second floor, the first floor was also impacted by extensive smoke damage. Restoring a historic structure of this significance requires considerable resources, specialized craftsmanship, and a commitment to preserving its original character. Our goal is to honor its legacy by restoring the station as closely as possible to its 1926 appearance while adapting it to serve the needs of today's burn survivors.
