In Loving Memory of Staff Sergeant Andrew Kim Nguyen

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Staff Sergeant Andrew Kim Nguyen, affectionately known as Andy. A first-generation American and proud United States Marine, Andy was born on April 24, 1980, in Providence, Rhode Island. He is survived by his parents, Kim and Van; his brothers Paul (Raquel) and Don (Becky); and his children, Drew and Honor. Andy was a force in his community and dedicated his life to serving others.

After the attacks on 9/11, Andy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served four years of active duty, including two overseas tours and a combat deployment to Afghanistan. For his actions in Afghanistan in 2005, Andy was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with a Distinguished "V" for Valor.

After transitioning out of the Marine Corps in 2006, Andy successfully completed degrees and executive programs from MIT, SMU, and the University of North Texas. In 2008, he founded the marketing and development firm WSI Search. He successfully applied the Marine Corps values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment to his work as an entrepreneur and philanthropist.

In 2011, he completed his Master's degree in Entrepreneurship and officially launched Honor Courage Commitment (HCC), a Dallas-based nonprofit empowering veterans to transition to civilian life through entrepreneurship, education, and community service. Within HCC, Andy pioneered the 22Kill initiative, a powerful movement created to raise national awareness for the veteran suicide epidemic. The 22Kill initiative eventually became its own independent nonprofit organization, which has since evolved into One Tribe Foundation (OTF). Today, the mission of OTF is to grow a community that raises awareness and combats suicide by empowering veterans, first responders, medical frontline workers, and their families through traditional and non-traditional therapies.

Andy loved hard, with the same tenacity that he served our country. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment in the short time he was here with us are his two beautiful children, Drew and Honor, who were his pride and joy. He is survived by countless loved ones, including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a vast circle of friends he considered family.

One Tribe Foundation (formerly 22KILL) began as a grass-roots movement to raise awareness of the Veteran suicide rate. We believe that creating a community of continued service and support is essential to restoring the value of life.

We started as 22KILL in 2013 as an awareness campaign. We simply wanted to bring attention to the suicide epidemic among our nation’s veterans.
Our “22 Push Up Challenge” helped bring attention to the epidemic of 22 deaths by suicide per day among our military and Veterans.
Since the inception of 22KILL, our tagline has been “One Tribe – One Fight”. Since 2013, we have grown and expanded our programs to reduce the suicide rate among Veterans and first responders. We continue working to reduce suicides among our military heroes, but we have been called to serve everyone on our front line—expanding our program to empower Veterans, first responders, front-line healthcare workers, and their families. During the world health crisis a few years ago, the time was never better for evolving our brand.
That is why we rebranded 22KILL to “One Tribe Foundation”.
We are all in this together—One Tribe—working to support each other, raise awareness, encourage mental wellness and healthy living, and combat suicide within our communities.
