We are the School of Comics, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to uplifting independent artists, making art education accessible, and nurturing the local creative community. We host workshops, events, classes, as well as selling merch & comics by exclusively independent artists in-studio, where anyone can use our equipment, supplies, and space all day long with a $15 day pass.

Founded by a punk guy, backed by a team of LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, disabled, & alternative artists; Everyone is welcome here.

Opened in April of 2026 by a rag-tag team of artists wanting to create a space that feels like home, assisted by the founders' previous business, Laguna Studios, an independent comic book publisher and fulfillment center (which currently lives in the warehouse at the School of Comics).

One of our long-term goals is to create a pipeline where aspiring artists can come here to learn about comics (including, but not limited to: writing, illustration, pitching, and marketing), then potentially get their work published at Laguna Studios, and finally have their work for sale in our store.

Aside from that, we aspire to create a third space that is welcoming to all artists, and helps artists access the tools and education they wouldn't otherwise be able to afford.

WHERE DOES YOUR MONEY GO?

Our current expenses are...

Paying staff
Art supplies for the studio
General studio improvements (better equipment, new chairs, etc)
Event improvements (such as a better projector screen for movie nights, outside lighting for night markets, etc)
Marketing & advertisement (such as printing & distributing flyers and expanding our marketing team)
Website costs (domain & upkeep)
Utility & rent costs (rent is expensive!!!)

Rest assured, all your donations are going toward a good cause! The founders don't even see a cent of this money (they make their money at Laguna Studios), so it all goes right back into the business.

By donating, you can...

Help a newly-founded non-profit get our footing
Support local San Antonio artists (as well as independent artists all around the globe)
Help youth and people of marginalized groups access art supplies, equipment, and education
Help us offer more for less, with the goal of eventually having a creative lounge space that is 100% free
Back an organization founded by artists, for artists
Help us hire more staff so we stop going crazy!
