Soul of the Movement invites you to participate in a visionary land back project in Boriké (Puerto Rico)! After some 25+ years of organizing for the recognition and reinvigoration of Indigenous Taino culture, language, spiritual practice and recovery of traditional Taino sacred sites the Organización del Pueblo Indígena Can-Jíbaro de Boriké (The Organization of Indigenous People of Boriké – Can-Jibaro for short, which is the original name for Taino mountain people) has an opportunity to purchase a 41-acre piece of land in the central mountain region of Puerto Rico. The land includes a large storage facility that they intend to turn into a Taino school + 2 houses which will be used for living spaces. The land is close to Caguana, a traditional Taino sacred ceremonial ground in Utuado, Puerto Rico, currently controlled by the U.S. government. The Taino are fighting for indigenous stewardship of the site.

The Taino people or Can-Jibaros, are currently seeking 750K to purchase the land and support a first phase of planning to create a Taino eco-village on their lands.

Soul of the Movement, a U.S.-based organization focused on amplifying and supporting the intersection of spirit and social movements, is playing a key role in connecting the Can-Jibaro leaders to indigenous organizations and land-back efforts in the mainland US.
