Every young person deserves a real shot at stability.

At The Common Good LA, we work with transition-age youth — young people ages 18-24 years old navigating the space between adolescence and adulthood without the safety net most of us take for granted. Some are aging out of foster care. Some are the first in their family born in this country, trying to build a future their parents couldn't map out for them. Some have already been through more instability, more systems, and more setbacks than most adults will face in a lifetime. What they have in common is this: given the right support at the right moment, they don't just survive that transition — they build something lasting from it.

That's what our TAY Stabilization & Education Navigation Program is built to do.

Through small, dedicated cohorts, each young person is paired with a mentor who shows up consistently — not as a case number, but as a person who knows their name, their goals, and their obstacles. Together they build an individualized success plan, work through life skills that too often go untaught — budgeting, opening a bank account, navigating digital systems, understanding what independence actually requires — and take real steps toward education and work. We bring in banking professionals to talk finances honestly. We take participants on field trips they help plan themselves, because ownership matters. And when a cohort finishes, each participant who completes the program earns a stipend — a tangible marker that their effort was seen and it counted.
