Miles for Smiles is a two-week independent ride event to support Trips for Kids Bay Area’s programs that provide transformative cycling experiences for youth from under-resourced communities. Participating is easy and fun!

How it works:

Teams

Choose your team name and join the leaderboard! Recruit as many team members as you like. Each team member recruits sponsors that add to the team’s total. Sponsors can pledge to support team members for miles ridden during the event or simply make a contribution. Ride individually or in groups to motivate each other and watch your total grow!

Individuals

You don’t need to join a team to participate - you can also ride independently! Simply sign up here, recruit your sponsors, and start riding!

1. Who can participate?

Anyone can participate!

2. Do I have to ride a certain number of miles?
No, asking for sponsors to donate based on the number of miles you ride is a great way to increase your total, but sponsors can donate any amount at any time.

3. Do I have to join a team to ride?
No, individuals are most welcome to participate.

4. What if I'm not a cyclist? Can I still participate?
Yes! As this is a virtual event, you can still form a team and recruit sponsor donations even if you’ve never been on a bike.

5. Can children participate?
Yes! We encourage youth to support other youth in their cycling adventures!

6. How do I recruit sponsors?

Ask those you know to sponsor you through social media, emails, and direct asks. Think about your friends, neighbors, coworkers, and social networks.
Set a goal and ask those you know to help you exceed it.
Post your progress throughout the event and encourage your network to support you.
Ask your employer to sponsor you or have colleagues join your team.

7. Can businesses participate?
Absolutely! It’s fun to see your business on the leaderboard and a great team building experience for you and your colleagues. Business sponsor logos will be added to the website and featured in Trips for Kids Bay Area social media. For more information on sponsorship levels, contact sue@tripsforkidsbayarea.org.

8. Do I have to wait until September 14th to start?
You can start recruiting your sponsors and donations at any time, and you can sign up now!

9. How can I increase my team’s total?
Setting a goal is a great way to increase your total! And keep encouraging your team members to ride and to spread the word.

TFKBA’s mission is to provide educational biking programs for youth from under-resourced communities in the Bay Area that encourage healthy lifestyles, self-discovery, and connection with nature. Over 40,000 Bay Area youth have benefited from our programs, including Trail Rides, Mobile Bike Workshops, and Earn-A-Bike programs.
