From acclaimed filmmaker Randall Nickerson, director of the landmark documentary Ariel Phenomenon, comes a new cinematic exploration into one of the most enduring and culturally significant regions of anomalous contact in the world: Ruwa, Zimbabwe.

Building upon decades of testimony surrounding the 1994 Ariel School encounter, this new film expands far beyond a single event. Through the voices of firsthand witnesses, experiencers, tribal elders, historians, researchers, and local communities, the project traces a much longer arc of interaction with paranormal phenomena and non-human intelligences—one woven through generations of lived experience, oral tradition, folklore, spirituality, and memory.

Rather than imposing exclusively Western frameworks onto the mystery, the film seeks to explore how different cultures have understood contact, consciousness, intelligence, and the unseen world across generations. In doing so, it asks whether modern conversations around UFOs, UAPs, and NHI may be incomplete without the perspectives of local traditions and knowledge systems that have engaged these questions in very different ways.

At its heart, the project is not simply about anomalous phenomena. It is about humanity’s relationship to mystery itself—and the possibility that cross-cultural dialogue may help us approach these experiences with greater humility, nuance, and understanding.

Visually immersive and emotionally grounded, the film will continue Randall Nickerson’s deeply human approach to storytelling: centering the people whose lives have been shaped by extraordinary encounters, while exploring the broader philosophical, historical, and societal implications of a phenomenon that transcends borders, belief systems, and conventional categories of understanding.

The project is a natural continuation of, and in some respects a companion film to, Randall’s 2022 documentary Ariel Phenomenon, one of the most highly regarded films in the UFO/anomalous-phenomena documentary field. The film currently holds a 100% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on six critics’ reviews.

Multiple shoots have already been completed in Zimbabwe for this new documentary, with another shoot currently planned for later this year. Post-production is expected to continue into 2027.
