A Place to Belong

B3 was built on a simple but powerful idea: everyone deserves a place to belong.

For adults with disabilities in Chapel Hill and surrounding areas, truly inclusive spaces are rare—especially spaces that are welcoming, accessible, and centered on connection rather than service delivery. Many individuals with disabilities experience a significant drop off in resources and increased isolation upon graduating high school. B3 has filled that gap by creating a community-driven “third space” for people with disabilities and their allies; not home, not work, but a place to show up as yourself, build relationships, access resources, and pursue lifelong learning.

Today, that vision has outgrown the spaces we borrow. As our community has grown, so has the need for a space of our own that truly reflects who we are and supports the people we serve.

Why Downtown Chapel Hill Matters

Location is not incidental—it is fundamental. We are excited to share that B3 has acquired a space on Rosemary Street in the center of Downtown Chapel Hill!

A permanent Clubhouse in downtown Chapel Hill, accessible via public transit lines, ensures that adults with disabilities can participate independently and consistently. It also ensures the Clubhouse is accessible for UNC students – our primary network of allies to the disability community.

Being downtown places B3 where community already happens—near UNC campus, local businesses, employers, libraries, and gathering places—making inclusion visible, everyday, and reciprocal.

What the B3 Clubhouse Will Make Possible

A permanent Clubhouse allows B3 to move from making it work to building what works.

The space will serve as:

A home for the B3 Clubhouse, allowing us to expand drop-in hours: a welcoming space for connection, growth, and belonging
A home for life skills programs, including transit navigation, daily living skills, and community participation
A hub for relationship-building, peer support, and leadership development
A centralized resource hub, offering caregiver education and connection to formalized services as needed

The B3 Clubhouse is more than a building. It is infrastructure for belonging.

By preparing to move to a permanent space, we are creating stability, visibility, and long-term impact for a community that is too often excluded from public life. This is a commitment to access, autonomy, and shared community—now and for generations to come.

Why an Opening Doors to Belonging Fundraiser?

Funds raised will support the essential work needed to prepare the space for B3 members, including accessibility-focused renovations, interior improvements, instructional technology, flexible and adaptive furniture, exterior signage, landscaping, and the future installation of a mini kitchen to support life skills programming.

Beyond preparing the physical space, community support will help sustain B3’s commitment to making the B3 Clubhouse and Life Skills programs accessible and welcoming to all members. Contributions help ensure that cost is not a barrier to participation and allows B3 to continue developing new programs based on community needs.

Our goal is to complete renovations by December 2026 and begin transitioning B3's operations into the space by late January 2027.

Every contribution makes a difference. While donors who give $1,000 or more are eligible for recognition on the donor acknowledgment mural (if desired), gifts of every size help create a welcoming place where people with disabilities and their allies can connect, learn, and belong.
