On February 9th, the author Jeannette Elum Greulach will be visiting Fairbanks Elementary's to share her story, The Castoff Canine. You may purchase your copy of the story for $10 and $5.50 will be donated to the Canine Collective, a local no kill animal shelter located in Plain City. If you would like, she will also be autographing copies of her book.

The Canine Collective
The author, Jeannette Elum Greulach, donates a portion of the profits to local rescues to continue to spread awareness about animal rescue. The Canine Collective will be receiving the proceeds of the sale of her book at Fairbanks. The Canine Collective is a rescue located in Plain City whose mission is to provide rescued dogs another chance to find their forever homes. They rescue from high-kill shelters, hoarding situations and from families in crisis. They have puppies and dogs in kennel facilities in Plain City, Ohio as well as in foster homes and in an obedience program at North Central Correctional Institute.

Fairbanks 6th Grade Authentic Learning Project

Fairbanks 6th grade teacher, Rachel Jones, worked with the Canine Collective to create a meaningful, authentic learning experience to learn from and raise awareness for animal rescue. She and the students fostered a five-month old Mountain Cur and Plott Hound mix pup named Scout.Students used their Portrait of a Panther skills and worked hard to develop and use their ELA skills in unique ways. Students worked in groups of 2-5 to develop creative ways to spread awareness about helping animals and supporting rescue organizations. Each group focused on a different approach to making an impact.

Scout became a local celebrity and like Rocky, found his forever home with a Fairbanks family.
