🌎 In honor of Earth Day and Arbor Day this year, we’d love to plant additional trees for the animals… for shade, for food, for enrichment, and for erosion control 🌳

Can you help us purchase trees in time for our Earth & Arbor Day Tree Planting Volunteer Event on April 25th?

There are several specific fruit trees and bushes we’d like to add to help us sustainably feed the animals in the future. Some will be planted in pig and goat enclosures and protected by fencing, and others in our memorial garden. We’re also hoping to incorporate additional vines, shrubs, and herbs into our bird aviaries and enclosures for enrichment, shade, and natural food sources.

We’d especially love to add more mulberry, pear, plum, and peach trees to the farm. Mulberries are extra special because their leaves are highly nutritious for Jordy the Torty and our goats.

We’ve also been experiencing some erosion issues that are beginning to cause problems, and planting trees and shrubs in those areas will help stabilize the soil and protect the land.

Fruit trees typically range from $35–$90, and fruit bushes from $17–$40, so even raising enough for just a couple of trees and a few bushes would make a meaningful difference.

We also gladly accept donated trees or plants if you have one you’d like to give, or if you’d prefer to purchase one to bring. The only requirement is that all plants must be non-toxic to animals.

Earth Day is incredibly important to us, and we’re always looking for ways to reduce our footprint. Trees do so much more than just provide beauty… they clean our air, produce oxygen, lower temperatures, prevent erosion, improve water quality, and even help reduce flooding. They also provide shade, protection, and, in many cases, food for our residents.
