ABOUT THE LIFT:
The Lift is TIWL's first national community event and fundraiser. On the weekend of August 28–30, certified coaches and gyms across the country will open their doors to host a 90-minute Embodied Resistance session; TIWL's signature movement experience designed around nervous system awareness, sustainable strength, and genuine choice in how you move.

Every location is working toward an individual fundraising goal that contributes to a national collective target of $20,000 — all of which supports the continued development and accessibility of trauma-informed training through TIWL.

Givebutter Tips: What is that about?
TIWL uses GiveButter's free fundraising platform, which is supported by optional tips from ticket buyers. You'll see a tip field at checkout — it defaults to 15%. You're welcome to adjust it or set it to zero by selecting "Other" and entering $0. Any questions: please reach out to Mindy Levine at mindy@healwithcfte.org

Do I need to be a TIWL-certified practitioner to attend?
No. The Lift is open to anyone. You don't need any prior experience with TIWL or with weightlifting to participate.

What equipment do I need?
That depends on your host location. Most sessions will accommodate multiple equipment options including dumbbells, barbells, kettlebells, and bodyweight. Virtual participants should have access to at least one form of resistance.

Do I need any prior TIWL training?
No prior TIWL training is required, but the Foundations Course is recommended. Applicants who have completed the Foundations training course will receive a partial credit towards the Certification Program cost.

ABOUT TRAUMA INFORMED WEIGHT LIFTING:

TIWL trains fitness professionals and mental health clinicians to apply trauma-informed principles to weight lifting — creating environments where healing, strength, and safety happen in the same room. TIWL's curriculum draws from original studies and published, peer-reviewed research in trauma physiology, neurobiology, and exercise psychology. This isn't a course-and-forget model. Weight lifting, when approached in a trauma-informed manner, can foster resilience, increase a felt sense of agency and empowerment, cultivate healthy nervous system functioning, and facilitate a positive relationship with self and others.
