Endorse The Five Principles Campaign
Homelessness: From Street to Stability

Portland does not lack compassion, and it does not lack money. What it lacks is one plan everyone follows, and a system held accountable for the result.

The Five Principles are a road map of how to build a coherent and effective homeless policy, and should be understood as an integrated whole:

Unified Approach
Effective Outreach
Treat the Whole Person
Prevent Homelessness
Protect the Commons

The Accountability Criteria are a specific list of criteria to judge whether programs addressing homelessness produce measurable and lasting recovery outcomes. They measure success by lives stabilized and cost per person helped, not by dollars spent.

We believe most people can recover, rebuild their lives, and become self-supporting. Compassion and accountability are not opposites. They are partners.

We do not write policy. We change the conversation so that better policy follows. This campaign runs on endorsements. Every organization, business, congregation, and neighbor who signs on makes it harder for leaders to look away. Every donor becomes an endorser too.

Your donation funds:

Campaign materials: pins, posters, printed materials, and the campaign website, so people can see who stands behind The Five Principles and add their own name.
Communication: social media and ongoing outreach to keep the campaign in front of the public.
Organizing: the meetings, briefings, and time it takes to bring new organizations on board and put The Five Principles in front of the people who make decisions in Multnomah County.

$25 sends pins and posters to a new endorsing organization. $100 covers materials for a neighborhood. $500 supports a week of organizing.

Give today. Then endorse, and ask your organization to do the same. A plan only works when enough people insist on it.
