Hello, my name is Rachel Ziegler, and on October 11th I’ll be throwing a fundraiser called SPACE in order to raise funds for my space-making project at The Church/Art House.

Since becoming a nonprofit at the beginning of 2024, The Church has collaborated with over 25 community groups, artists, teachers and activists who offer programming in this space while reinforcing community ties between like-minded people. Because of these collaborators, we’ve had over 1800 people pass through our doors since January of this year. My business structure is simple -make art while offering affordable rental and donation based programming to Omaha’s creative community.

Since becoming a nonprofit, we’ve received funding from Elevate Omaha, Nebraska Arts Council as well as individual private donations. The majority of our funding comes from creative people in our community who pay rent. Some of these supporters pay for studio rental in our basement and others pay to practice or host events in the upstairs sanctuary. There are several artists and community groups who we support by waving or reducing the rental fee, because we feel what they are extending to the community is inspiring and important.

I would like to celebrate this space while sharing a peek into some of the talent I’ve had the fortune of being surrounded by since the beginning of this project. The event will take place on October 11th and begin at 6pm with music by our resident band, Sgt. Leisure along with aerial performances by some of our resident aerialists. Artwork created by our resident artists will be on display and available for sale throughout the evening. At 7:30 I’ll give a short presentation on our history and upcoming events and we’ll finish the evening with a DJ set by Crabrangucci. We’ll be offering a tamales bar created by Masa Luna along with non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages served by our favorite bartender and artist, Lee Riggs. It’s going to be a beautiful time and I hope you can join us!
