Our current food system isn’t working. When federal aid stalls, millions of people lose access to food, and yet, Detroit’s growers, chefs, and neighbors step up every time. This moment isn’t just a crisis; it’s a chance to build something different: a food system rooted in sovereignty, care, and self-determination.

Between November 1 and December 5, Keep Growing Detroit, our partners, and the network of farmers we serve will put these values into practice. Through pay-what-you-can markets, stocked community fridges, hot meals, and produce boxes for families, we’ll do our part to keep food moving to where it’s needed most, while paying local growers for every pound they contribute.

Detroit’s food-sovereignty movement receives less than five percent of the funding directed to emergency food relief. That imbalance keeps us dependent on short-term fixes. Your support helps us show what a long-term solution looks like: community-controlled food infrastructure that feeds people, sustains farmers, and changes what’s possible for our city.

DONATE: A one-time donation will help us buy, harvest, pack, and deliver produce at no cost to families in need. Recurring contributions will be allocated towards ongoing food sovereignty work.

We know this moment is hard. If you or someone you know has been impacted by the loss of SNAP benefits, you are not alone, and Detroit’s food-sovereignty community is showing up to make sure as many households as possible have access to fresh, healthy food this season.

Between November 1 and December 5, Keep Growing Detroit and our network of partners and growers will:

Convert our Grown in Detroit produce stand in Shed 2 at Eastern Market into a Pay-What-You-Can, Take-What-You-Need model on November 1, 8, and 15.
Contribute roughly 1,500 lbs of produce to community fridges across the city, available for anyone to take, anytime.
Provide 120 boxes of Detroit-grown produce to families through three community events hosted by our partners.
Deliver about 725 lbs of produce to a local community kitchen preparing hot meals for neighborhood distribution.
