Story

uugow5WW2aULduzm22ddGnJnQQiKgtPWxMNocg86.pngThe Development of the New Main Library is a Cooperative Responsibility

In the past 7 years, two of which were virtually crippled by a world-wide pandemic, the library has raised $1,180,048. Pretty amazing for an Appalachian community! We are reaching out for the community's help to get our new library completed. Pike County has over 27,000 residents. Over 50% hold library cards. Less than 700 people/businesses/organizations have contributed to the library campaign. That is less than 2.5% of the county population. The library, directly or indirectly, affects everyone in the community, improving social welfare and increasing the quality of life for all, especially our more vulnerable population. Let's join together to continue towards getting our new main library project completed!

In 2020, the library received a $300,000 federal Challenge grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. It is a 3:1 match, meaning (after it was awarded) we have to raise $900,000 to receive the entire $300,000. So far, we have met our first year match of $75,000, our second year match of $250,000, and now we are on our third year match of $250,000. We have $237,000 left to raise by July 15th. We believe, with a community-wide effort, we can achieve this! While we continue to pursue grants, sponsorships, etc., we would like to challenge the community to help us reach our goal. We are creating a community-wide peer to peer fundraising campaign. We would like to set a goal for this campaign at $100,000. If the community rallies together, our dream of having a new, state of the art, easily accessible, ample parking spaced library is closer to fruition!

We would like encourage a friendly competition among schools, students, individuals, businesses and organizations to help us meet our goal. Join a team, create a new team, challenge your family members, friends, coworkers, teammates, classmates etc. to join your team and give! Ask for donations, pitch for sponsorships, hold a big event or multiple smaller events, such as a lemonade stand (remember when Ethan made over $1,700 with his lemonade stand?! - pictured above with Library Director, Natosha Massie). Upload your events and pictures on your team page to share! Below are some examples of fundraising events. TOGETHER, WE CAN DO THIS!
