Dear Palms Community,

My name is Miguel Poyastro (Villa 4), my wife Lezlie and I are board members and supporters of the nonprofit organization, Abriendo Mentes. Abriendo Mentes operates right here in our backyard in the local communities of Playa Potrero and Brasilito. Since 2009, they have been responding to community needs by offering education and community development programs, with a special focus on child and youth development, adult education, women's empowerment and community engagement. This organization has embedded itself in our local community to truly understand the needs and create meaningful, impactful, and sustainable programs. At The Palms we are blessed to be surrounded by beauty, nature, and peace. But as in many places around the world, there is a different reality in which many local individuals and families are living. Inadequate public education, violence, substance abuse and social exclusion are a few of the issues that are present in Potrero and Brasilito and is also the context in which children are being raised. It is important to recognize that these issues exist, but also that there are organizations like Abriendo Mentes behind the scenes working to address them. That is why I choose to support Abriendo Mentes - to make a positive difference in these local communities.

I would like to encourage fellow owners of The Palms to support Abriendo Mentes to show our solidarity to the betterment of the local communities. We are asking each Villa to donate $300.00 over the holiday season, December through the February 2023. I think this is a very attainable goal if we work together, and this small amount will be so influential for Abriendo Mentes in supporting operations and programs in 2023. I hope you will join me by giving generously.
