Literacy has always been at the heart of Pangea’s mission. From the early days of Pangea Publishing to our current efforts with Project Backpack, we have dedicated the past twenty-four years to increasing literacy and access to education in Ugandan refugee settlements and beyond. But why did we decide to focus on creating a more literate world in the first place?

The ability to read and write is a fundamental skill on which you can build any future you choose. From falling in love with storytelling in childhood to writing our own lives as adults , literacy shapes our lived experiences—whether we realize it or not.

This is why the theme for the 2025 virtual campaign is “The Stories that Shape Us”. Over the next several weeks, we want to explore how the ability to read increases the quality of life not just for individuals, but their communities and our world overall. Along the way, we hope that you will contribute to our fundraiser so you can directly contribute to Pangea’s efforts to make a 100% literate world.

Get involved

There are many ways you can get involved with this year’s fundraiser. Each option will directly support one of our ongoing literacy programs and even give you the opportunity to join in on some friendly competition. To donate, you can:

1. Join an existing fundraising team to show support for our mission and your favorite Pangea community member

2. Create your own fundraising team and invite your network to join you as you make a difference and make a name for yourself on our leaderboard

In addition to your financial contribution, we also invite you to donate your words. Share your support of Pangea with friends, family, and social media. Everyone is invited to join "The Stories that Shape Us", but only one team can become the winner of the 2025 spring fundraiser!
