Vivian Strong Foundation was established in memory of our daughter, Vivian. In May 2023, at fifteen, Vivian was diagnosed with metastatic Ewing Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer that mostly affects teens and young adults. Vivian fought for barely ten months before passing away on February 7, 2024.

Vivian was a dedicated athlete. From the moment she picked up her first lacrosse stick at age seven, to falling in love with field hockey as a high school freshman, Vivian took care of her body. She was excited for sports practices and worked on her skills on her own. She was a phenomenal teammate - supportive, encouraging and loyal.

After Vivian's diagnosis, we watched as cancer took over her strong and healthy body. We watched as Vivian spent days at a time in the hospital, dragging an IV pole with her every step. We watched her legs stop working and we carried her up and down the stairs. We saw her determination and her strength, but also her frustration and despair as her body betrayed her. We fought alongside Vivian. Our friends and our community fought alongside Vivian.

We also found joy along the way. Memories made on a whirlwind weekend trip to NYC; a last-minute trip to the lake for the 4th of July; a nurse arranging a private room at the hospital for tacos and ice cream sundaes; playing charades at a friend's house on Vivian's last beach trip; classmates honoring Vivian at the high school football game.

The fitness challenge reminds us that courage isn't measured by how fast we run or how much we lift, but by showing up, one step at a time. The moments of fun remind us that joy can exist even in the hardest seasons. Join us on August 8 and finish strong, finish with hope, finish for Vivian. 🎗️💜
