This year’s theme, “This is Our House,” is an assertion of belonging and collective power. Our house – this BACLT community – is filled with joy, pain, progress, and history that precedes our 20 years. Many people with many stories make up BACLT. In a political time when powers seek to divide and dehumanize, we stand firm in the belief that it is our collective responsibility to steward land and homes together, for the liberation of us all. This is Our House!

Auction & raffle items in previous years have included: gift cards to Alkali Rye, Blue Willow Tea, Cheeseboard Collective, The Hidden Cafe, Kitchen on Fire, The Dry Garden; plants and housewares; original artwork; and more!

Based in Berkeley and Oakland, BACLT is a social justice organization that converts for-profit rental properties into permanently affordable, democratically run, cooperative housing for lower income households in order to foster economic and racial equity. Our vision is a community where everyone, regardless of background, finds not just housing, but a lasting home defined by affordability, safety, and joy.

This year, we also celebrate BACLT's 20th Anniversary! We'll be recounting the stories of how co-opers and union activists incorporated in 2006, hired our first staff member in 2010, facilitated the East Bay Cooperative Housing Coalition in 2011, and co-stewarded properties with resident organizers over the years. Reflecting back, we ground in all we've accomplished and see that we have and will continue to: stay, learn, and build.
