When was the last time you felt directionless? For many young adults, they are feeling that...right now.
In 2020, U.S. college enrollment dropped to the lowest level in almost two decades and U.S. colleges and universities had 1.5 million fewer students compared with five years ago. Why?
Amidst the uncertainty of a pandemic, sky-high college tuition prices and limited hands-on internship opportunities, many prospective Gen Z students feel lost and unsure of how to start laying the foundation of their careers. Despite this, Gen Z is not a lost generation. They are thoughtful, tech-savvy and mission-driven individuals. These individuals are seeking a career and a profession they can find a passion in.
Covalent helps them find that purpose.
As one fellow put it, “Covalent truly kept me going and looking towards my future when nothing else was during this pandemic.”
In 19 months and three cohorts, we’ve trained over 100 fellows from across the country to become the next generation of mission-driven leaders. They've led projects for nearly 70 small businesses and nonprofits in Illinois, providing them with critical pro-bono and low-cost digital marketing support. Covalent gave fellows a chance to explore different career paths, make lifelong connections and receive job offers (20 and counting!) — while giving back to small, local businesses.
"Covalent empowered me to freely and fearlessly explore my creativity in a meaningful way. I was able to work on hands-on projects with an actual client and see my work come to life," another fellow said.
Covalent’s success to this point would not have been possible without the countless volunteers who have donated their time. Our entire staff work full-time jobs outside of Covalent so believe us in when we say this has been a labor of love! Together, we’re hoping to raise a generation of students that use their skills for social good.
But our capacity and resources are dwindling and we don’t have the finances we need to make next year a success. We are asking you today to consider a donation to our organization. The money raised will go to training students through experiential learning and social impact, helping them land jobs and building a stronger community of people looking to do more good in the world.
When you give to Covalent, you’re not only supporting the next generation of leaders but you’re indirectly also giving to the small businesses and nonprofits that we pair our fellows with.
Make a tax-deductible donation today to help us Move Fellows Forward in 2022.
