On April 27th, I’m lacing up my running shoes once again—not just for myself, but for TJ and for all the children who should still be here. This May, TJ should be turning eight years old, excitedly planning his birthday party, picking a theme, and telling me all about it. But he isn’t. So instead, like I do every year, I take to the streets and run for him.

For those new here, I ran with TJ well into my pregnancy, jamming to Latino beats together, our rhythm in sync. Since his life and death, I have reclaimed running in his honor, one step at a time. But this year is different—this year, I’m finally ready to run a race and fundraise alongside the incredible PUSH for Empowered Pregnancy, an organization fighting for stillbirth prevention and advocacy, with a focus on supporting diverse communities like mine.
