Who we are

Pause to Thrive is a dedicated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to empowering individuals in New Jersey who are navigating the profound physical and mental health challenges stemming from various forms of trauma including serious illness, disease, as well as the unique experiences of First Responders and military personnel. We believe that recovery extends beyond physical healing, encompassing emotional, psychological, and spiritual well-being. Co-founded by healthcare veterans Karen Rafiqi and Linda Savino, our organization emerged from a deep understanding of the often-overlooked trauma associated with significant health crises and high-stress professions. We recognized a critical need to provide a holistic framework for individuals to reclaim their health and personal agency following life-altering medical experiences and traumatic service.

Our core purpose is to offer a safe, supportive, and empowering environment where individuals can actively engage in their healing journey. We guide participants through a unique spiritual holistic model, fostering resilience and equipping them with self-care practices to not only recover but to truly thrive. We help individuals move beyond being mere survivors to becoming "Thrivers" – individuals who have found inner strength and purpose.

Since our inception, Pause to Thrive has provided critical support to those suffering from various forms of trauma, including chronic illness, and has developed specialized initiatives for First Responders and military veterans who experience Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other service-related mental health challenges. Our programs address the unique needs of these brave individuals, alongside those facing medical trauma related to cancer, heart disease, and women's health issues.
