A Scholarship That Changes More Than One Life

In many rural communities, children carry far more than they should.

They carry grief, fear, loss, and experiences no child should have to navigate alone. And often, the adults who love them most—teachers, counselors, caregivers, pastors—want to help but have never been given the tools to respond to trauma in ways that truly heal.

This January, Foothold International is hosting a two-day, child-centered, trauma-informed training for counselors, teachers, and caregivers working directly with children in underserved rural communities in Kenya.

This training is practical, relational, and deeply grounded in local context. Participants will learn how to recognize trauma responses in children, create emotional safety, support regulation, and respond with care rather than punishment—skills that can change the trajectory of a child’s life.

But for many who need this training most, cost is the barrier.

Why Scholarships Matter

Most participants serve on very limited incomes. Without financial support, many simply cannot attend.

That’s where scholarships come in.

✨ A gift of $75 provides a full scholarship for one participant to attend the entire two-day workshop.

That single scholarship does more than fund a seat in a room. It equips a trusted adult who will return to their school, church, or community and use these skills again and again—reaching dozens of children over time.

Foothold has long focused on prevention through education, clean water, menstrual hygiene, and community support. As our work has deepened, our partners have asked for something more: tools to help children heal emotionally, not just survive.
