What You Support

Since 2022, Trinidad Trails Alliance has provided over 1,500 volunteer hours maintaining local trails, creating new opportunities for outdoor recreation, and supporting major events in Trinidad and Las Animas County.

We have built over two miles of new trail at the Wormhole and Army Corps of Engineers property, made progress restoring local favorites like Reilly Canyon trail at Trinidad Lake State Park, and improved or created City trails at the Boulevard and animal shelter.

TTA highlights include:

A paid youth program providing summer cash for local teens
A volunteer corps consisting of over 150 passionate local and regional trail stewards
Providing scholarships for locals to attend Trinidad State College's mechanized trail building class
Representing Trinidad among partnerships at the regional and state level, including working with the Spanish Peaks Outdoor Coalition, Colorado Parks & Wildlife, the Trust for Public Land, and other major agencies
Leading the campaign to raise the Lodging Tax to 6% in Trinidad in order to support outdoor recreation amenities and programming

Where Your Money Goes

TTA strives to be a transparent organization and will begin publishing an annual report in 2025. At the moment, our efforts are primarily volunteer-based, including the hundreds of hours put in by our Director and Board members.

We use our funding for mission critical efforts such as:

Purchasing and maintaining trail building and maintenance equipment, including a trailer
Funding programs such as the TSC Mechanized Trail Building scholarship
Providing limited stipends to our Director
Acquiring trail signage and wayfinding items

As we grow, our funding needs scale alongside us. In the coming years, major expenses could include:

Contracting trail construction at the Wormhole or other city-owned parcels
Salaries for TTA Director and/or other staff
Additional needs for accounting and administration support
Contracting design and planning for new trails, bike park, and/or pump track
New youth programming opportunities

Our Mission

The mission of Trinidad Trails Alliance is to engage, educate, and empower Trinidad residents and visitors in supporting sustainable outdoor recreation though the building and maintenance of non-motorized, multi-use trails, community volunteerism, and stewardship of local outdoor spaces.

Alongside partner organizations, we work towards:

Trail maintenance and construction
Mitigating wildfire risk
Observing and documenting local plants and animals
Discouraging illegal camping
Deterring inappropriate motor vehicle trail use
Encouraging outdoor recreation and tourism
Demonstrating respect and appreciation for our public lands and wildlife
