Turtle came to us from a hoarding situation quite literally on death’s door. At just 14 ounces, he weighed nearly half of what he should have. He was severely malnourished, covered in feces, battling an eye infection, and loaded with intestinal parasites. His little body had been through more in his first weeks than most cats endure in a lifetime.

And yet… he fought.

We fought right alongside him.

We nursed him back from the brink, but the medical hurdles just kept coming. His teeth erupted far later than they should have. Chronic ear infections became the norm. One issue after another.

And now, the news we were hoping not to hear.

Two veterinarians have confirmed that Turtle’s heart murmur is a true murmur, not something innocent he would outgrow. Today we were told this could potentially be life-threatening—especially during rough play or moments of excitement with the other kittens.

The possibilities are terrifying:

💔 Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) — serious heart disease that may require lifelong medication and monitoring

💔 A congenital heart defect, such as a hole in his heart

💔 Potentially a shortened lifespan depending on the diagnosis

We immediately started calling cardiologists.

The cost for the initial cardiology appointment—which includes the consultation and echocardiogram needed for an official diagnosis—is $800.

That doesn’t include medications or follow-up care if needed.

We have gotten this little boy so far. Through starvation. Through infections. Through parasites. Through every setback his tiny body could throw at us.

We cannot stop here.
