As an independent creative, I rely on community support to develop and publish books and media.

This Black History Month, join me in creating more Black stories.

When’s the last time you saw an animal character with kinky hair, a love for arts, and a spirit of resilience?

It’s clear that representation in children’s books and media is important, but it’s just as crucial to have diversity across those representations. As much as we love (and need!) books showcasing Black girl magic and Black boy joy, we need diverse animal books, too! After all, 20% of all children’s books feature animal characters- and kids love their animal friends!

The Turtle With An Afro is the first modern animal character whose experience AND likeness represent Black culture. With this campaign, you’ll support the publication of the third book in the series, and be the first to get a copy.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Turtle is a spunky youngster who loves overcoming challenges, always rocking her kinky, coily Afro! In this third book in the TWA series, The Turtle With An Afro: The Backyard Bash, Turtle and her brother must figure out a way to save their big party when rain begins to pour. After Mom encourages them to “make the best of everyday,” they put their heads together and devise a new plan. The story demonstrates how creativity, calm, and thoughtfulness help us salvage good times when faced with disappointment.
