Story

48,000 Academic Workers at the University of California currently striking over unfair labor practices. Show your solidarity by contributing to the UC Academic Workers Strike Support and Hardship Fund! This is the official hardship fund of UAW 2865, UAW 5810, and Student Researchers United-UAW.

Academic Workers at UC have been bargaining for months to address the issues we struggle with daily, such as severe rent burden, lack of job security, and lack of support for working parents and international scholars.

Over the course of bargaining, rather than coming to fair agreements, the University has engaged in a wide variety of unlawful tactics. These tactics range from unilaterally changing our working conditions to refusing to provide the information we need to bargain. Without the University changing course, we cannot win our demands for living wages, childcare benefits, sustainable transit incentives, and support for international workers.

This fund will be used to help Academic Workers who experience hardship as a result of lost pay. These funds will supplement strike support from the UAW strike fund. Some of the funds may additionally be used to ensure picket lines have things like water and other essentials.

The funds from the UC Academic Workers Strike Support and Hardship Fund will be disbursed by the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council, and any monies that go undispersed will be donated to the SDICLC’s community services division.
