Help Us Make Ramadan at University of Houston a Home Away From Home

As the blessed month of Ramadan approaches, we turn to you with an opportunity to make a profound impact on our Muslim community at the University of Houston. For the past two years, the Houston Muslim Students Association (UHMSA) has created a special sanctuary on campus — a place where students can experience the serenity of Ramadan, practice our faith, and come together in worship.

But we need your help to make it happen again this year, and we have an ambitious goal to raise $80,000. This will enable us to continue offering a welcoming and spiritually enriching space where over 300+ students will break their fast, pray, and deepen their connection to Islam.

What Your Support Will Provide:

Your generous donations will help cover the essential costs of the Ramadan activities and programs that we offer, ensuring that every Muslim student has a place to call home during this sacred time.

Tent Structure ($16,000): The heart of our Ramadan experience. The tent is more than just a place — it is a sanctuary of peace and brotherhood/sisterhood where students gather for Iftar, Taraweeh prayers, and educational halaqas. It’s a place to seek solace, meet new friends, and grow in faith.
Tent Needs ($4,000): To create an atmosphere of tranquility and reflection, the tent needs to be beautifully decorated with the essence of Ramadan. This can include necessary supplies such as lighting, prayer rugs, air conditioning, fans, and decor, etc.
Ramadan GBM + Iftars ($39,000): Your donation will directly support Iftar meals for 300+ students every night throughout Ramadan. This includes everything from food preparation to logistics. For many, this Iftar is their first proper meal of the day, and we want to ensure that it’s nutritious, warm, and served with love.
Islamic Awareness Week ($3,000): Education and Dawah are a cornerstone of the MSA’s mission. During Islamic Awareness Week, we host engaging events to help educate the broader campus about Islam, break misconceptions, and spread the message of Islam. Your support will allow us to bring in guest speakers, organize workshops, and create meaningful engagement opportunities.
Umrah Trip ($9,000): An unforgettable spiritual experience. This year, we will sponsor part of the cost for a group of students to perform Umrah in the Spring Break during Ramadan. This is a life-changing opportunity for them to grow in their faith in the most sacred place. Your contributions will leave a lasting impact on their lives for years to come.
General, Administrative, and Fundraising Expenses ($5,500): We believe in transparency. This budget ensures that we can continue to raise funds effectively for all of our programs, including marketing, outreach, various tools, and software expenses, etc. to raise awareness about the MSA's Ramadan initiatives.
Miscellaneous ($3,500): Other small but important costs that arise to ensure smooth operation of all events, from cleaning supplies to transportation for volunteers.

It was narrated from Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“Whoever gives food for a fasting person to break his fast, he will have a reward like theirs, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest.”
