UIU Wisconsin Gives Back

United in Giving | 2026 UIUCares Campaign

From Wisconsin, united in service. Together, we can make a difference.

Since our founding in 2024, Umu Igbo Unite (UIU) Wisconsin has been committed to building stronger communities through cultural preservation, education, professional development, and meaningful service.

What began as a vision to unite individuals around our shared heritage has grown into a thriving, volunteer-led chapter dedicated to creating opportunities and making a difference throughout Wisconsin.

In just two years, UIU Wisconsin has:

Organized more than 60 community activities.
Supported seven students through our Ọganihu Scholarship Program.
Participated in seven blood drives.
Completed seven community cleanups at Penn Park since 2024, contributing to a cleaner, more welcoming neighborhood.
Helped harvest more than 750 pounds of fresh produce through our community gardening initiatives.
Assisted with local back-to-school drives to support students and families preparing for the academic year.
Participated in Read Your Heart Out activities with local schools, supporting literacy, educational engagement, and connections between students and community volunteers.
Advanced youth development, cultural education, professional networking, and volunteer service throughout Wisconsin.

These accomplishments reflect our belief that meaningful impact is achieved through consistent service, collective responsibility, and community investment.

Now, we are extending that same commitment beyond Wisconsin.

Through our 2026 UIU Wisconsin Gives Back: United in Giving campaign, we are partnering with UIUCares, the community service arm of Umu Igbo Unite, to support relief initiatives serving vulnerable communities in Nigeria.

Our goal is to raise $1,000 by December 31, 2026, to contribute to three humanitarian initiatives selected by our Wisconsin Executive Leadership Team.

Our Three Areas of Impact

1. Zoya Foundation Relief Program

Providing relief and nourishment to families in need

For families experiencing financial hardship, access to basic necessities can become a daily challenge. Food insecurity places additional pressure on households already navigating difficult economic circumstances.

Through its partnership with Zoya, UIUCares has supported efforts to provide essential food supplies to families experiencing hardship in Nigeria.

During the 2021 Feed a Family Christmas relief initiative, UIUCares and Zoya helped provide food assistance to 200 families. The initiative focused on supplying essential food staples, easing household burdens, and ensuring families had access to nourishing meals during the holiday season.

These efforts demonstrate how targeted community support can provide meaningful relief during financially difficult periods.

Through our 2026 campaign, UIU Wisconsin hopes to contribute toward continued relief efforts that prioritize vulnerable families and help address immediate needs.

Our purpose: To support families experiencing hardship through compassionate, community-centered assistance.

2. CAPIO Prison Relief Program

Extending dignity, compassion, and human connection

Individuals living in correctional facilities are among the populations that can experience significant social isolation and limited access to personal support.

UIU Cares has partnered with the Carmelite Prisoners' Interest Organization (CAPIO) to support humanitarian outreach within the Nigerian correctional system.

During a previous Christmas outreach at the Enugu Custodial Centre, the partnership provided meals and emotional support to approximately 2,900 incarcerated individuals.

Beyond providing food, these efforts recognize the importance of human dignity, compassion, and community connection for individuals who are often overlooked.

Through UIU Wisconsin Gives Back, we hope to contribute to the continuation of this humanitarian outreach and help extend care to individuals within correctional facilities.

Our purpose: To support prison relief efforts that promote dignity, compassion, and meaningful human connection.

Food Distribution for Vulnerable Groups

Combating hunger and supporting underserved communities

Food insecurity continues to affect families and vulnerable populations throughout Nigeria, particularly those experiencing poverty, displacement, and economic instability.

UIUCares has organized humanitarian food distribution initiatives across southeastern Nigeria, providing essential supplies to families facing difficult circumstances.

Through its broader relief programming, UIUCares reports assisting more than 900 families with food and essential supplies.

One example is the Ugba Edogori Relief Program in Enugu State, which provided assistance to 200 families displaced by communal boundary disputes. Food supplies included rice, beans, yams, noodles, vegetable oil, and other essential items.

These programs help address immediate hunger while providing temporary economic relief and demonstrating that vulnerable communities have not been forgotten.

UIU Wisconsin is proud to support the continuation of these efforts through our 2026 giving campaign.

Our purpose: To help provide food assistance and essential relief to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity and hardship.

Why We Give

At UIU Wisconsin, service is more than an occasional activity. It is part of who we are.

From supporting Penn Park cleanups and participating in blood drives to supporting local schools through back-to-school initiatives and Read Your Heart Out activities, our members have consistently demonstrated a commitment to strengthening the communities around us.

Through scholarships, youth development, community gardening, and cultural education, we have seen firsthand how collective action can create meaningful opportunities for others.

Our commitment to service does not end at Wisconsin's borders.

Through UIUCares, we have an opportunity to support humanitarian efforts in Nigeria and demonstrate how our shared heritage and collective generosity can bring communities together across continents.

Our goal is $1,000. Our commitment to service reaches far beyond that number.

Every contribution brings us closer to supporting the three relief initiatives selected by our chapter.
