UPDATE:

On Thursday, May 16, 2024, Prosecuting Attorney Eli Savit announced his office would be pursuing felony charges for four individuals for their actions in solidarity with Gaza on November 17, 2023.

Early the morning of Tuesday, May 21, 2024 the police violently raided the Gaza Solidarity Encampment on the Diag - brutally assaulting members of the encampment community and arresting four protesters. Charges for the four who were arrested are still pending.

Savit’s criminal charges and the violent sweep of the Encampment are some of the more extreme parts of UMich’s campaign to silence pro-Palestinian activism since October 7. To date, the university has given out dozens of trespass warnings to student and community protesters and summoned at least 15 students to Office of Student Conflict Resolution (OSCR) hearings to discuss “possible violations” of the UM Statement of Student Rights and Responsibilities based on the events of November 17.

Regents have made abundantly clear that their goal is to preserve their ability to support Israel and its genocide, and they are willing to abuse any and all of their powers to do so.

We are reopening our original legal defense fundraiser to raise funds for these eight brave activists. Funds will be used for legal fees, defense campaign costs, and mutual aid for activists facing charges, including those who have lost employment in retaliation for their activism. As before, your contribution to this legal fund can help ensure that voices speaking out for justice on campus are not intimidated into silence.

Any funds not used in defense of campus activists will be donated to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund.
