On August 29, 2026, Zeus stood at Auction, his fate resting on what would happen when his number was called.

For nearly two decades, Zeus carried children.

He knew the rhythm of camp life, the small hands, young voices, summer days, and the quiet trust of carrying a child safely upon his back. And from everything we are learning about him, Zeus didn't simply endure that work. He appears to have embraced it.

At approximately 25 years old, Zeus is still bright-eyed, curious, and deeply interested in people. There is a tenderness about him that is almost impossible to describe until you stand beside him. He softens toward you. He watches. He listens. His gentleness is palpable.

But after nearly two decades of giving, his aging body could no longer keep pace with the physical demands of camp life.

And so, on August 29, Zeus found himself tethered at the Unadilla camp horse auction, waiting for his number to be called.

For an old horse, an auction can be the beginning of a terrible descent. The very qualities that made Zeus invaluable to generations of children—his age, his patience, his gentleness—could not protect him from what might come next.

We were there to catch him when he was left to fend for himself.

Zeus came home to Unbridled.

Now, the horse who spent so many years carrying others gets to be carried by US.

He does not need to prove his usefulness. He does not need to keep up. His days can unfold at the pace of an older horse: good meals, soft places to rest, friends nearby, attentive veterinary and hoof care, and people who delight in simply being with him.
