Public space is disappearing, swallowed by privatization, fear, and distraction. And yet, artists are still out there. Taping, drawing, planting, painting. Responding. Reclaiming.

uncommissioned is a global exhibition of site-specific art interventions launched across more than 20 cities this October. Over 40 artists are stepping into the streets, not with permission, but with purpose. From quiet gestures to loud provocations, each work is a response to the world around us: our cities, our silence, our shared urgency.

We believe art belongs where life happens. In the alleyways, on the sidewalks, in the cracks of a system too slow to catch up. That’s why uncommissioned invites artists to make work because it matters, not because it was asked for. To reclaim public space not with spectacle, but with care, friction, humor, grief, resistance.

This is about reviving public art, not the branded kind that asks for selfies, but the kind that raises questions you carry home. The kind that meets you in your neighborhood, speaks your language, or doesn’t, but still makes you look twice.

Artists have always known how to act before systems do. And right now, they are asking better questions than most institutions allow. The artists in uncommissioned are doing this out of love: for the community, for the street, for the belief that art can still cut through.
