For over 100 years, Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh has worked tirelessly with unwavering commitment to the welfare of animals, pet owners, and the Pittsburgh community. Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh is the result of a merger between the Animal Rescue League Shelter & Wildlife Rehabilitation Center (established in 1909) and Western Pennsylvania Humane Society (established in 1874), each with independently rich histories of serving our community’s animals.

At our East End and North Side shelters, we care for and find permanent, loving homes for dogs, cats and other companion animals, many of whom have been abused, abandoned and neglected. At our Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, we rehabilitate wildlife native to Pennsylvania that has been harmed or displaced by encounters with man. We are the only shelter in the region that takes in and cares for both wild and companion animals.

We proudly carry a century of history as we provide exemplary care to domestic and wild animals alike, and lead the region in protecting its most vulnerable creatures.
