Undressed illuminates the emotional realities of toxic relationships and the quiet battles with self worth that many women face. This film is created to empower viewers to recognize harmful cycles, embrace their bodies and identities, and find the confidence to choose themselves.

The Story

When her toxic relationship reaches a breaking point, a lost college graduate must confront her body insecurities and break free from destructive cycles to reclaim her self worth.

Salem’s life is stalling. Three years after graduation, she is stuck making lattes at a coffee shop job that barely covers her rent and slowly erodes her spirit. Each failed attempt to break into journalism chips away at the confidence she once had, leaving her drifting through days that feel smaller and smaller.

She shares an apartment with Ryan, more of a cohabiting stranger than a friend, and their clashing personalities only deepen the distance between them. The one thing that feels stable is her relationship. For four months, Aaron has been a bright spot in Salem’s routine until a seemingly thoughtful gift reveals something darker.

What once felt like love begins to feel like control. His warmth turns into a cycle of highs and lows that keeps her off balance. As Aaron’s mask slips, subtle criticisms and quiet expectations begin to strip away Salem’s self worth piece by piece.

When Salem finally confronts the truth she has been avoiding, she sees the toxic cycle consuming her. With her confidence unraveling and her future at stake, she faces a defining choice: remain in the life she has settled for, or find the courage to reclaim her voice and the woman she is meant to become.

Why We Are Ready

Our team of Black independent filmmakers and Chicago based artists is deeply committed to bringing Undressed to life with honesty and care. We have assembled a passionate group of filmmakers, designers, and local music artists who are dedicated to telling stories that reflect real experiences. This project is personal to us, and we are prepared to approach it with the depth and vulnerability it deserves.

Undressed centers a perspective rarely given space on screen: the inner world of a plus size Black woman navigating a toxic relationship, body image, and the forces that shape self worth. These experiences are real and often carried in silence.

By telling Salem’s story with honesty and intention, we are creating space for those who feel unseen and offering representation that is long overdue.
