Their Story Isn't Over.

Every young person deserves the opportunity to grow—even behind bars.

Imagine being 16 or 17 years old, sitting inside an adult jail, facing an uncertain future. Your days are structured, your freedom is limited, and some of the decisions that will shape your life are beyond your control.

But there is one thing that remains possible: personal growth.

Reinventing Ourselves has been invited to bring a new program to 20 juveniles housed in an adult jail

These young men receive educational services, but facility leadership has identified a need for additional programming that supports their emotional wellness, resilience, and personal development.

We believe they deserve that opportunity.

Introducing Reinventing Our Futures

A 12-week creative wellness, literacy, and life-skills experience for up to 20 incarcerated young men.

This isn't another classroom. And it isn't therapy.

It's an opportunity to connect, laugh, listen, create, think differently, and learn skills that can make a meaningful difference in everyday life.

Through weekly in-person sessions, participants will experience:

📚 Stories That Open Conversations — Three powerful novels by award-winning author Sharon M. Draper, using read-alouds and audiobooks so reading ability is never a barrier.

🎨 Creativity and Connection — Interactive games, team challenges, storytelling, art, and meaningful conversations.

🧠 Emotional Regulation — Learning to recognize emotions, understand triggers, manage sadness and anger, and pause before reacting.

🦋 Mindfulness and Resilience — Practical techniques for finding calm, managing stress, and navigating difficult circumstances.

💙 Life Skills and Personal Growth — Communication, conflict resolution, decision-making, accountability, and discovering personal strengths.

Each participant will also receive a personal Reinventing Myself Toolkit, filled with activities and practical skills they can continue using between sessions.

Why This Matters

Some of these young men may be facing serious charges and uncertain legal outcomes.

We cannot promise what their futures will look like.

But we can help them recognize that they still have choices, dignity, strengths, and opportunities to grow.

We can teach them that anger doesn't have to control their actions. That asking for help is a strength. That their emotions are real, but they do not have to dictate every response.

And perhaps most importantly, that their lives still have meaning.

"No matter what happens with your case, you still have a life to live, choices to make, and a person you are becoming."

They are literally reinventing themselves.

Help Us Raise $3,000

Your generosity will help Reinventing Ourselves launch this 12-week pilot program for up to 20 young people.

Your donations will support:

60 paperback novels across three powerful stories
Approved audiobook access for participants who struggle with reading
Personal binders, worksheets, and creative activity supplies
Guided mindfulness recordings and practical wellness resources
Program preparation and weekly in-person facilitation
Materials and resources to help us evaluate and improve the pilot

Our estimated budget is approximately $2,855, and our $3,000 fundraising goal provides a small cushion for unexpected expenses.

This Is Just the Beginning

Our hope is to develop a meaningful, repeatable program that can eventually reach young people in other correctional facilities.

We are starting with 20 young men.

Twenty opportunities to build trust. Twenty opportunities to practice a better response. Twenty opportunities to remind someone that they still matter.

Their story isn't over. Help us make the next chapter count.

With gratitude,

Reinventing Ourselves
Healthy. Happy. Hopeful.

Funds will support the proposed pilot, subject to final facility and program approvals. If expenses are lower than anticipated or donations exceed the initial goal, remaining designated funds will support continuation or expansion of this initiative.
