For more than 100 years, the Community House has been a place where Birmingham comes together — for celebrations, classes, meetings, programs, milestones, and meaningful moments shared with family, friends, and neighbors.

Now, the Birmingham Community House is beginning an exciting new chapter.

A New Chapter for the Community House

In July 2026, the City of Birmingham purchased the Community House property at 380 S. Bates Street on behalf of the newly established City of Birmingham Community House Foundation, ensuring that this important community asset remains dedicated to serving Birmingham residents for generations to come.

The new Foundation is working to reopen, revitalize, and reimagine the Birmingham Community House as a vibrant gathering place for our community.

Our vision is to preserve what generations of residents have loved about the House while building a sustainable future that reflects the needs of Birmingham today.

Plans are underway to welcome the community back through early childhood education, events and celebrations, community programming, volunteer opportunities, and new ways for residents to gather and connect.

Purchasing the building was only the beginning.
