At H.O.P.E. Gardens, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience that moment of discovery.

Each year, H.O.P.E. Gardens provides year-round school garden education to 3,600 students across 16 schools in four West Michigan school districts, with thriving school gardens serving as living classrooms at every campus. Beyond the school day, thousands more children, families, and community members participate in family gardening programs, community gardens, workshops, volunteer opportunities, and community events that celebrate the joy of growing food together.

Our school gardens are living classrooms where science, nutrition, math, language arts, and environmental stewardship come alive through hands-on discovery. Lessons that begin in the classroom continue in the garden as children plant seeds, care for living things, explore insects and pollinators, build healthy soil, harvest fresh vegetables, and taste foods they may have never tried before.

But the learning doesn't stop at school.

Children carry their excitement home. Families plant gardens together, cook with fresh vegetables, and share what they've learned with neighbors and friends. In our community gardens, people of all ages come together to grow healthy food, learn from one another, and build lasting friendships. Every seed planted strengthens not only a garden, but the community around it.
