The 13th Annual Utah Pacific Island Heritage Month Kickoff is a vibrant and immersive cultural celebration, bringing together 5,000–8,000 attendees to honor the rich diversity of Pacific Island cultures. As a Pacific Island Cultural Station Host, you will play a key role in educating, engaging, and connecting attendees with the history, traditions, and customs of the Pacific Islands—all while earning a $150 stipend for your participation!

What is a Pacific Island Cultural Station Host?

A Cultural Station Host is a knowledgeable and passionate representative of a Pacific Island nation who leads an interactive educational station inside the Pacific Island Cultural Station. Each host brings their heritage to life through storytelling, demonstrations, and hands-on activities, allowing attendees to experience the similarities and differences between Pacific Island cultures in an engaging and authentic way.

What Can a Cultural Station Include?

🎭 Traditional Arts & Crafts – Lei-making, tapa cloth painting, weaving, wood carving, tattoo art, or other traditional crafts.
🎶 Music & Dance – Teach traditional songs, chants, drumming, or basic dance movements.
🍍 Food & Agriculture – Explain the significance of traditional foods, demonstrate how to prepare dishes, or showcase native plants and farming techniques.
📜 History & Storytelling – Share oral traditions, legends, genealogy, and the historical migration of Pacific Islanders.
⚓ Navigation & Canoe Culture – Teach about the wayfinding techniques of Polynesian voyagers and the significance of the ocean.
💬 Language & Customs – Introduce key phrases in your island’s language, explain traditional greetings, or share cultural etiquette.

What You Need to Know:

✅ You Must Be Located Inside the Pacific Island Cultural Station – All hosts will be stationed in a designated area dedicated to cultural education.
✅ One Table & Two Chairs Are Provided – Each host will have space to set up their materials and engage with attendees.
✅ Interactive & Engaging Presentation – Hands-on activities are encouraged to make learning fun and meaningful for attendees of all ages.
✅ Materials & Setup – We encourage hosts to bring visual aids, artifacts, or materials to help illustrate their station’s theme (limited funding may be available for materials).
✅ Commitment to the Event – Cultural Station Hosts should be available for the full event duration and willing to engage with attendees throughout the evening.
