I appreciate you taking the time to view this page. I would love to share with you what inspired me to start this campaign and how I came up with the idea for this foundation.

We all remember the books that we read as children. They make an impact on us. It means something to connect with the characters, to see where their adventures take them, to understand them as people – sometimes, even to know them as friends because we understand how important representation in this form is. Do you remember how many books you read as a child that showcased a child/children with disabilities or differences that was the highlight of the adventure?

It's likely that you're finding it very hard to think of more than one, if that. Well, I can think of a popular book about a young blind girl named Helen Keller. While it certainly wasn’t an adventure, it was very informative, impactful, and inspiring.

This brings me to Ascension Publishing’s first children's book. I would like to introduce the characters in this book/graphic novel series that is full of JAW-DROPPING adventure about superheroes whose unique differences are their superpowers! This book/graphic novel displays a slight comic style in writing, which brings a unique element to it.

“THE SOE CREW”

In “THE SOE CREW” (S-O-E meaning the strongest on earth), we introduce you to Khal, Skylar, Kozayne, and Chelskey. They are truly remarkable one-of-a-kind kids who will provide a sense of belonging and pride to all children, by emphasizing that no matter the differences, we are all special and carry a one-of-a-kind blueprint that cannot be duplicated! This statement is quite literal, may I add, hence our fingerprints. Fun fact: there are 8 billion people reportedly on Earth, but no two people carry the same fingerprints. Simply amazing! Well, the takeaway message from that lesson is that we all carry a unique trait that is exclusive to us, and it's not just indicative of a physical ailment or disorder.

The Soe Crew showcases a lesson that a difference doesn’t take away from your superpower but in all actuality, it adds to it. Have you ever witnessed a person that was handicapped but defied the odds and became an Olympic medalist (Alana Nichols)? Have you ever witnessed a completely blind person learn an instrument and render an immaculate level in the skill of music production (Stevie Wonder)? Some may say, this capability alone makes them peculiar in strength. Well, that equates to a superhero to me and I'm sure so many would agree!

When I see my son Khalid, who is 5 years old and was born with MOTA syndrome, shine bright despite the questions, stares, and ostracizing that come from his peers, it amazes me and scares me simultaneously. As a mom, I fear the rejection my child may experience and how he internalizes it. This is my biggest worry. Will he grow to use this as fuel, or will these experiences cause him to dim his light and crawl into a cave? Each day, I have the opportunity to watch him shamelessly embrace the understanding that “I look different because I am.” He asks questions but often uplifts himself without hesitation: “I'm cool, I’m fun, and I’m handsome.” These are the things he says about himself, and I never want that to change! I just think about how strong and amazing he is. There are no limitations in his world, only adjustments. That really displays a resilience that is supernatural. Let's give children with this level of strength the opportunity to see kids like them in the role of the superheroes that they are!

If you want change, be the change! Khalid LOVES Sonic, Superman, and everything that involves strength! I noticed, there are slim to none superheroes that look like him. What can he possibly internalize by this observation? Possibly that he does not qualify to be strong like a superhero because he’s different. Or maybe he can never possess that type of strength because no one in that comic, book, movie, or TV series looks like him. No child should feel they are not accepted by societal standards because they are different in some way, shape, or form.

This inspired me, a mom of a superhero, to work towards changing this reality. Let's take a look into THE SOE CREW! Khal is partially blind, and his power is a laser-like beam that comes from his eye that can destroy and tear down any structure. Next is Skylar, a young extraordinary dancer. She has a heart defect, but she never stopped twirling. Her twirls can whip up a tornado in attempts to change the weather for her and the Soe crew’s missions! Then there’s Kozayne, a boy who is wheelchair-bound but secretly holds an operation mechanism that allows him to launch into the sky. This is a much-needed asset to the team as it allows him to quickly launch like a rocket onto the scene. Next is Chelskey, an autistic girl who is an extraordinary gymnast, who has the secret ability to erase one's memory on command. This ability is beneficial to the crew as it helps keep their identities discreet. This is the SOE CREW! Superheroes, inspired by my own children and their amazing strength.

GOAL

We aim to raise $15,000 within a duration of 1 month with a total timeframe of completion being no more than 6 months to officially launch the Unity Ascension Foundation to raise awareness and make a change by donating THE SOE CREW books and other amazing children/s books that bring encouragement to children's hospitals globally.

**Specific:** Raise $15,000 to donate 10,000 books to 10,000 children in multiple children's hospitals across the U.S. and outside of the U.S.

**Measurable:** Track the amount of money raised through donations and the number of books purchased, ensuring that the target of 10,000 books is reached.

**Achievable:** Set up a fundraising campaign that includes online crowdfunding, partnerships with local businesses, and community events to reach the $15,000 goal.

**Relevant:** This initiative aims to promote all children in literacy while providing comfort, strength and self acceptance to children.

**Time-bound:** Achieve the fundraising goal to launch this foundation and distribute the books to the children's hospitals within 6 months from the launch date of the campaign.

Raise $15,000 through a combination of crowdfunding, community events, and business partnerships by September, 2025 in order to launch a foundation aimed at donating 10,000 books to 10,000 children in children’s hospitals across the U.S in the following six months.

In my opinion, The Soe Crew book is going to change the lives of many children because it will promote Equal Rights and social change, which is why Every single child in America needs to read this book.
