That is enough to fill all of the theaters at The Picture House Bronxville. And then some. These numbers are growing steadily.

The folks we are talking about are working or are on social security. A full 28% of households living in our community can be classified as Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE)*. This cohort includes the roughly 6% of our community living in poverty.

FAQs

HOW DOES SNAP WORK IN BET?

The Eastchester Community Action Partnership (ECAP) is our local food pantry program.
Residents in need show ID; proof of residency; proof that they meet the income threshold required by the state, and have to be pre-registered for SNAP benefits. Details are verified at each visit.
Those seeking food who are not in ECAP's direct service area are referred to the pantry nearest their home address. (There is a small number of Yonkers 10710 people for whom the pantry program does provide as ECAP is the closest pantry to them.)
ECAP coordinates with Eastchester Senior Programs & Services to pack SNAP food for qualified, homebound elderly who reach out for help. The Town of Eastchester delivers food directly to the older adult's door.
ECAP orders the majority of food from Feeding Westchester. Cuts there have led to a reduction in food quantities. ECAP relies on individual donations to make up the difference. With a growing census, they need more help.

Note: The value of making cash donations is that it allows ECAP to move smartly and swiftly to address specific and timely needs.

Please bring healthy, shelf-stable food items. *ECAP is already scheduled to receive turkeys, so these are not needed, thank you.*

3. HOW ELSE CAN I HELP?

Stay tuned to local media for complete details about a December Food Drive in Bronxville spearheaded by Mayor Mary Marvin and leaders of several Village nonprofits. We will update this page, send email updates, and share information on social media about this week-long, Village-wide effort.
Houses of worship and other local organizations and merchants have likely already stepped up or launched food assistance programs, too.

4. WHAT ABOUT SUPPORTING FEEDING WESTCHESTER?

To help Feeding Westchester as they raise funds and collect food donations to feed Westchester's hungry, please donate directly to them via their website.

5. WHAT ARE THE KNOCK-ON EFFECTS OF FOOD INSECURITY?

Mental health and anguish (Both for recipients AND service providers)
Parents/grandparents going without to feed children and grandchildren
Elder spouses – and anyone whose family members require in- or out-of-home services – are going without to route available income to care
When families are cash poor, some school children don't have clothes/shoes/gear that fits, and that can result in unnecessary truancy
Living on fixed incomes, people often have to choose between food, heat, or medicine
