LIGHT THE SIGN!

The Venice Chamber Community Foundation supports projects and activities that provide for the public benefit of the Venice community.

Your contributions help us light and activate the VENICE sign for the community!

Spanning across Windward Avenue at Pacific, the VENICE Sign in lights is a modern day replica of the one originally installed in 1905 by the legendary Abbot Kinney.

It is a defining symbol of Venice, past and present.

In 2007, the Venice Sign Restoration Project recreated and installed the contemporary version of this historic sign. Since that time the Venice Chamber of Commerce has been responsible for maintaining the sign and for protecting its trademark.

The Venice Chamber Community Foundation produces community activities that celebrate the spirit of Venice at the VENICE sign.

Visitors are invited to photograph the sign for their personal use and enjoyment.

The Venice Sign has been lit up in a multitude of different color schemes for different events and causes, including red white and blue, rainbow colors for LGBT pride, and red white and green to celebrate the holidays. One of the more popular variants was an “O’Venice” display for St. Patrick’s Day.

The Venice Sign is the most iconic symbol of Venice, California.

The landmark has a long history. On July 4th, 1905, legendary developer Abbot Kinney built the sign to attract people to his nascent community. Roughly fifty years later, the sign vanished.

In 2007, the Venice Sign Restoration Project recreated and installed the second iteration of the sign, and it became an instant sensation. The annual lighting of the sign is a Venice tradition, where people from across Los Angeles gather to celebrate the holidays with their loved ones. Many celebrities have paid a visit, including Robert Downey Jr., P!nk, Robby Krieger, and members of the L.A. Rams. More photos can be found here: Venice Paparazzi.

The Venice Sign is the center for educational, artistic, and community service activites in Venice. Each year, the Annual VENICE Holiday Sign Lighting features science, technology, engineering, arts, and math education activities for youth.
