Northstar Tutoring is a free, one-on-one tutoring and mentoring program serving K–12 students from low-income families in the Washington, D.C. area. We match students with their own tutors and provide multiple tutoring sessions per week and regular mentoring activities throughout the year.

This past year was one of our biggest yet. We served over 400 students and added several new sites—including Oxon Hill Middle School, Hyattsville Middle School, Sasha Bruce Youthwork, and Center City.

Looking ahead, we already have several new schools and community centers asking to partner with us. If we’re able to raise the funding, we’ll be able to reach 300 additional students in the coming school year.

This spring, we’ve set a fundraising goal of $15,000—enough to cover approximately half the cost of running a tutoring site for a full school year. Your support will help us bring one-on-one tutoring and mentoring to even more students who need it.

Northstar is a small program with a big impact. Our tutors are all volunteers, but we rely on donations to cover materials, technology, staff, and basic supplies for students.

Any amount helps us continue this work—and helps our students keep learning, growing, and thriving.
