As you may know, each year Purepartner gives back to organizations that improve the lives of others through our ongoing “Pure Acts of Kindness" campaign.

This year, we support a cause that touches us directly: ALS.

For the first time ever, we are also hoping that you can become one of our “PALS” and contribute, too. Purepartner pledges to match your donations so that our small team can contribute a more substantial donation to these groups of caring people and organizations. If this touches you, or believe it would touch someone you know, we encourage you to forward this email to help spread awareness, as well as potentially raise funds.

ALS diagnoses’ have been on an incredible rise and there is no cure, no treatment to slow progression and 90% of cases have no known cause. Beyond this, when diagnosed, the doctors nor patients have any idea if there are months, years, or decades of survival or what that journey will entail. Because of this, most patients receive their diagnosis and are sent on their way alone and traumatized to fend for themselves to search out information and resources.

Purepartner is supporting Compassionate Care ALS and the Columbia University Irving Medical Center Eleanor and Lou Gehrig ALS Center, organizations that directly touch and help the lives of those living with ALS, and their friends and family.

The profound changes following an ALS diagnosis can be overwhelming. Yet there are those who are uniquely qualified to support the patients, and their families navigate this challenging journey so that they may live their lives with the highest degree of functioning and quality of life possible. That is why we have chosen these organizations to support this year. They are the specialists, neighbors, surviving loved ones and professionals who make living with ALS a life of hope, pragmatism, possibility, and resilience.

ALS: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

Also Known As Motor Neuron Disease, Lou Gehrig's Disease

ALS is fatal.

There is no cure for ALS.

Every 90 minutes someone is diagnosed with the disease and someone dies from it.

It is a disease that involves the degeneration of motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord.

The motor neuron degeneration progresses to weakness and loss of control of muscle and motor control, eventually affecting muscles that control the most basic functioning: talking, chewing, swallowing, breathing

In 90% of cases, there is no known cause of ALS. A mutated gene is the reason for the 10% that are known.

Life expectancy is typically 2-5 years and the rate of progression varies, with some living 5, 10+ years, and others only months.
