For years, I have poured my heart, time, and personal finances into the FreeLee Foundation—a nonprofit I founded to challenge the systemic oppression faced by Women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and BIPOC communities. Our mission has always been clear: to close the educational equity gap and connect our people with the charitable resources they are often denied access to.

But like many grassroots leaders, I’ve faced the painful reality that passion alone doesn’t keep the doors open. Without initial access to grants or a donor base, I tried to keep the Foundation alive from my own pocket—paying expenses, organizing events, and continuing advocacy even when the funding didn’t come.

As a result, the organization fell behind on administrative costs, including state franchise fees required to maintain its active status. We are now at a critical crossroads. In order to reinstate and reclassify FreeLee from a private foundation to a public nonprofit—a shift that will open us up to the funding and support we’ve long been excluded from—we need your help.

🎯 Our Mission

The FreeLee Foundation was born from my lived experience as a Black, Lesbian Woman who understands firsthand the barriers communities like ours face. We exist to advocate for equity in education, access to charitable resources, and the creation of affirming spaces for women, LGBTQ+ people, and BIPOC communities.

But today, we need your help to rebuild what we’ve started.

🚨 Why We’re Raising Funds

Due to a lack of access to early funding and grants, FreeLee fell behind on state-required franchise fees. I tried to keep the work going out of my own pocket until that was no longer possible.

Now, we are seeking to:

✅ Reclassify from a private foundation to a public nonprofit
✅ Pay overdue franchise fees and penalties
✅ Reinstate our good standing to receive grants and donations
✅ Return to the work: education access, emotional safety, and resource navigation
