2nd Annual Volley to Victory

Fundraiser Supporting the JPII Fr. Kyle Walterscheid Scholarship

Students are the future of our Church. We have had 4 students in 5 years join the religious life!

The Campus Ministry at St. John Paul II University Parish serves college students from the University of North Texas, Texas Woman's University, and North Central Texas College with the mission of forming saints for the world.

How We Form Saints

The primary focus of the Campus Ministry is holistic formation of missionary disciples. The time students spend in campus ministry has long term impact on their vocation, family life, and career. More than simply retaining their own faith, they are sent on campus and into the world after graduation to share their faith boldly.

We meet students where they are and help them go deeper. Whether they don't know Christ and his Church or they are already on fire, students have opportunities to live the faith to the fullest. We do this through:

Community Night (85-105 students weekly)
Bible studies (82 students signed up for 10 bible studies this semester to encounter Christ in Scripture and ask tough questions)
Prayer Challenge (43 students in a 10 week prayer group to establish the essential habit of daily mental prayer)
Evangelization Training (19 students enrolled in a 12 week training program to inspire students to live up to the call and spread the Gospel)

Our First Year Was a Blessing!

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our donors, sponsors, and parish community, our inaugural Volley to Victory fundraiser was a wonderful success! In our very first year, six deserving college students were awarded Fr. Kyle Walterscheid Scholarships!

These scholarship recipients have expressed their heartfelt gratitude, sharing how truly blessed they feel to have the love, encouragement, and financial support of St. John Paul II University Parish, Campus Ministry, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. For these students, the scholarships represent so much more than financial assistance. They are a reminder that their parish community believes in them, supports their educational goals, and is invested in their spiritual growth and future.

As we prepare for our 2nd Annual Volley to Victory, we are excited to build upon the success of our inaugural year and continue this meaningful mission. Our goal is not only to provide scholarships to deserving students today but also to establish a lasting endowment fund that will support future generations of Catholic college students.

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All net proceeds from our fundraising events directly benefit the Fr. Kyle Walterscheid Scholarship Fund and the establishment of its future endowment.

Let's Celebrate with a Crawfish Feast!

This year, we're trading fine dining for a little Cajun flair! On Saturday, April 10, 2027, we're rolling out the crawfish and gathering around the table for a festive afternoon of delicious food, warm fellowship, and heartfelt appreciation for the generous donors and friends who have made this scholarship possible.

But the real highlight of the evening won't just be the crawfish — it will be the students whose lives you have touched!

Our inaugural scholarship recipients will be our special guests, giving donors the opportunity to meet these remarkable young adults, hear their personal stories, and experience firsthand the impact of their generosity. Several scholarship recipients will be featured speakers, sharing what receiving the Fr. Kyle Walterscheid Scholarship has meant to them. Throughout the event, our recipients will mingle with donors and guests, offering their personal thanks for the kindness, encouragement, and financial support that have made such a difference in their lives.

This special gathering is our opportunity to celebrate YOU — our donors, sponsors, and faithful supporters — and to share the joy of seeing your generosity come full circle.

The Volley to Victory Scholarship Committee is once again seeking grants, sponsorships, and donations to help make this vision a reality.

Six scholarships and a great start to our endowment fund in our first year — imagine what we can accomplish together in our second year!

With your continued generosity, prayers, and support, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of these young adults while strengthening the future of our Church.

Come hungry, bring your appetite for fellowship, and join us for a crawfish feast filled with gratitude, laughter, and blessings!

Together, we're helping to form saints for the world!

Here is what our scholarship recipients have to say:

[The Awakening Retreat] truly changed my perspective on life and helped me reflect more deeply on my relationship with God. It strengthened my faith and reminded me of the importance of trusting in God’s plan. - Dorin

Wherever God wants me to end up, I know two things for sure, God loves me and I know where home is and that is at His church. - Destiny

Through JP2’s campus ministry, I have found not only a place of healing but a mission; a mission to be a light and servant for others, just as JP2 was for me, to help others find their way through the storms through Christ. - Gavin

John Paul II has been instrumental in helping me grow personally and spiritually; it facilitated an environment where I was encouraged to be a good practicing Catholic and to want to grow in my love and knowledge of God. - Shannon

I’ve made so many friends that I not only have fun with, but who impel me and encourage me to grow deeper in my faith and help me to become a better faith-filled person. I’m eternally grateful to God for this community and hope and pray that the fullness of God’s blessings will rest on this parish and all who contribute to this atmosphere of home and community that makes JPII a place for generations to grow into saints for our modern times. - Sara

Through Jesus’s help, I have been able to come out of my comfort zone and make plenty of true friends and acquaintances who share the same interests as me. As I look forward to my future, I see a multitude of great opportunities to grow in my love and faith for God. - Hannah

And what others have to say about our scholarship recipients:

I have witnessed Dorin's intentional pursuit of a deeper relationship with God and her openness to spiritual growth.

Destiny is someone who not only knows her purpose and values but lives in them. Within my first few interactions with her, I could tell she was someone who led with her faith and had a heart for giving back to others. Destiny is anchored by faith, led by service, and fueled by making a positive difference in others.

Shannon is rooted in her faith and has made service a priority. It is clear to me that her family and faith are incredibly important to her, and she has shown a lot of dedication to prayer and helping others.

What I especially admire about Sara is the confidence and passion she brings to her faith. Sara’s main project, a biographical film, follows her journey from a season of lost identity to rediscovering purpose through faith, community, service, and love after relocating to Denton for her Masters of Fine Arts degree at UNT. It is a story about finding wholeness again through faith.

It is evident how much Hannah loves Our Lord and desires to grow closer to Him and His Church with all her heart, soul, and mind.
