If you're reading this, a high school student you know has been selected to go on a trip to Guatemala with Vivid Roots, a Boise-based non-profit that increases access to clean water, education, and health services in underserved communities in Central and South America.

Over 771 million people lack access to clean and safe drinking water. That's in 1 in 10 people worldwide.

More people die from contaminated and polluted water than all forms of violence including war.

WHO ARE WE HELPING?

Vivid Roots has partnered with a non-profit organization in Guatemala City called Creamos. Creamos is a campus that supports over 500 women and their families living in the community surrounding the Guatemala City garbage dump (GCGD) to achieve economic self-determination and create safer and healthier lives. "Like many urban settings within the developing world, Guatemala City has experienced chronic challenges in the distribution of water to its citizens. At the end of 2019, Guatemala City reported a water distribution deficit of approximately 9 million liters per hour, which is disproportionately experienced by the city’s most vulnerable and marginalized residents." -Creamos

HOW ARE WE HELPING?

Each high school student going on this trip is encouraged to have a fundraising goal of $250 that will go directly towards their service project with Creamos.

Money raised will go towards building a Rainwater Harvesting and Storage system in the Los Pinos community living in Zone 3 of the Guatemala City garbage dump (just outside of the Creamos campus). This specific community has zero access to water and is in desperate need. This new system is estimated to last approximately 20 - 25 years and Creamos has estimated that this system will decrease the amount of money that families spend on water by 80%. In addition to the Rainwater Harvesting and Storage system funds raised will also install 3 rain catchment systems! In total this project will impact 34 households resulting in about 204 people.
