Story
The Umbrella Brigade is a non-profit located in Central Florida that works as a community defense group. We believe that in order to achieve social equity, we need to remove barriers that only affect those of certain communities and groups. We work to defend the rights people are born with, including but not limited to: bodily autonomy, social equity, and accessibility to adequate healthcare, regardless of race, religion, capabilities, gender/sexual orientation, or sex.
Since our founding in August of 2022, we have created and completed many initiatives in our community. After Hurricane Ian, we collected donations and our volunteers brought them down to Fort Myers to support relief efforts. We attended the Board of Medicine meetings about gender affirming care this past fall to support trans youth in Florida. We worked with a local organization that set up a Christmas shop for single mothers living in local hotels. During the cold spell in December, we collected blankets, coats, and other cold weather gear and brought them to the unhoused population in the surrounding areas. Our main project is our work at All Women's Clinic in Altamonte Springs. Our volunteers create a safe, comfortable environment for patients seeking care. This is to offset the efforts pro-life protestors who yell at, follow, and harass these patients.
If you would like to donate to the clinic or any current projects, please visit our website and read about any current or upcoming initiatives. Any donations here will go directly towards us getting our 501c3 and 501c4 tax status.
We appreciate any and all support you can give to help us keep ALL of our community safe.
