We are Norman-area students who choose to spend our time designing, building, programming, and automating competitive robots through the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC). As members of the Royal Society of Robotics, a Norman-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we work together on complex engineering problems while developing the skills and character needed for college, careers, and leadership.

Our work goes far beyond assembling parts. We design in 3D CAD, program and automate robot behavior, use sensors and mechanical systems to achieve accurate and consistent performance, and fabricate custom mechanical components. Just as important, we learn integrity by doing the work the right way, taking responsibility for our decisions, owning mistakes, and holding ourselves to high standards even when challenges are difficult. We learn perseverance, teamwork, and accountability by managing real projects, working through failure, and continually improving our designs.

This level of hands-on engineering requires significant resources, including equipment, materials, software, and manufacturing tools. As our skills advance and the challenges we take on become more complex, it is important that we are able to meet those challenges without being limited by funding.

We believe student opportunities should never be limited by funding, and that potential should be supported and developed as far as students are willing to take it. We do not receive school or government funding. Community support directly provides the parts, tools, software, competition opportunities, and outreach that make this work possible.
