STANCE emerges as a vibrant force in our musical landscape, weaving together melodies and messages that transcend boundaries. Founded on the belief that music can be a catalyst for change, STANCE unites artists, activists, and advocates. Here’s a glimpse into their journey:

Inception: STANCE was born from a shared vision—a vision that resonated with artists yearning to amplify marginalized voices. Their mission? To create a harmonious tapestry where every note is a brushstroke, painting a picture of unity and resilience.
Diverse Voices: The choir’s members hail from diverse backgrounds—musicians, poets, dreamers, and visionaries. They come together, not just to sing, but to raise their voices against injustice, discrimination, and silence. STANCE celebrates the kaleidoscope of identities, embracing LGBTQIA+ communities and allies.
Impactful Performances: STANCE graces stages across the city, infusing their performances with purpose. From intimate gatherings to grand concerts, their music reverberates through hearts and minds. Their anthems echo themes of love, acceptance, and social change.
Community Connection: Beyond the spotlight, STANCE engages with local communities. They collaborate with schools, community centers, and grassroots organizations. Their workshops empower youth, fostering creativity and resilience. Through music, they build bridges, dismantling barriers one note at a time.

🌟 Tacoma Refugee Choir: A Symphony of Belonging 🌟

The Tacoma Refugee Choir (TRC)—a testament to resilience, hope, and the power of song. Let’s explore their remarkable journey:

Origins: In 2016, against the backdrop of a global refugee crisis, TRC emerged as a beacon of compassion. A pilot project, born from collaboration with Tacoma Community House, it began with 22 refugees and community members. Their shared purpose? To find solace, belonging, and healing through music.
Inclusive Harmony: TRC transcends auditions, welcoming refugees, immigrants, and friends. Over eight years, they’ve embraced 800 members from 70+ countries. Their voices resonate at community events, educational forums, and government gatherings. TEDxSeattle applauded them, and PBS featured their original songs.
Community Impact: TRC’s concerts and music videos—15 and counting—have touched over 160,000 hearts. But their impact extends beyond the stage. Harmony After Hours events, school outreach, and group music therapy classes foster connections. They empower participants to find their voices, bridging cultural divides.
Prerequisites of Belonging: TRC understands that belonging is universal. It’s safety, trust, contribution, and recognition. Their mission? To create spaces where authenticity thrives, interconnection blooms, and healing unfolds. Love, authenticity, interdependence, and humility guide their path.
Voices of Change: TRC’s choir members—business owners, judges, parents, and more—sing not just for themselves but for a world where everyone feels at home. When asked, “When does one cease to be a refugee?” they respond, “When you feel like you belong.”
